The White Lotus Season 1

Aired on 11th July 2021, directed by Mike White, White Lotus is a comedy TV series which achieved recognition as its clips started surfacing on Instagram developing curiosity among the young adults for its hilarious and comical script and rather unconventional and bizarre comedy. The first season is based in Honolulu, Hawaii. White Lotus is basically a lavish hotel resort where a bunch of people visit for vacation face the most unusual and strangely funny situation as the hotel management is not as disciplined as portrayed. This is more of a dark comedy than a regular one, its PG rating is 18+.

The star of the show Jennifer Coolidge plays Tanya Mcquoid, a single woman past her middle age who is there for a vacation but has a deeper meaning for this visit which is to pour her mother’s ashes in the ocean, a mother who is basically the reason for her mental traumas. Alexandra Diddario and Jake Lacy play the role of a newly-wed couple who is there for their honeymoon, on which Rachel (Alexandra Diddario) realizes that she needs to be more focused on her career and that the guy she married, Shane Patton (Jake Lacy) is not the one for her as their mental compatibility does not sit right with her and the audience in a comical way but Shane is of the opposite opinion.

Steve Zahn playing the role of a father, a family guy Mark married to Nicole (Connie Britton) who is a famous journalist finds out a dark secret about his dead father on the very first day of the vacation. This is couple is staying in White Lotus hotel with two of their kids Olivia Mossbacher (Sydney Sweeney) and Quin Mossbacher (Fred Hechinger). Sydney Sweeney is well liked among the young adults because of her iconic character in Euphoria helping her gain more fans, which automatically made this show “White Lotus” a hit too. Olivia appears to be a “woke” young girl who also brought a friend, Paula with herself to this family vacation. Paula’s character is played by Brittany O’Grady who does an amazing job at being a reserved and peculiar friend setting Olivia’s family’s dynamic in a weird way. Quin being the younger brother is very aloof and sticks to his gadgets but later finds his passion in a rather outlandish activity which is off putting to his parents. One of the main reasons for the chaos in the hotel is the hotel manager Armond played by Murray Bartlett but Shane has his eye on him from the start. A constant display of dissatisfaction at the hotel service from Shane drives Armond to a point where he begins a hidden battle of continuously annoying Shane who is a rich spoiled manchild which also shows his reality to his wife Rachel. The whole situation is aggravated when Shane’s mother comes to visit the newlywed couple at their honeymoon. Tanya on the other is in her own world of being a “drunk lunatic” as described by herself to a spa manager and then her fling who is a random man that she finds at the beach.

This show has two seasons, second one is based in Italy with only a very few characters from the previous season. Season one was a rib-tickling, hilarious dark comedy, in fact it is one of my most favourite dark comedy shows to date.
